Purpose
This course will review the language, presentation, and design concepts introduced in Quarter 1 and Quarter 2. The course will strongly emphasize individual student development of language and presentation skills. It will promote critical thinking and discussion of a variety of design concepts and techniques. Students will have greater in-class opportunities to practice and refine their English skills than in Q1 and Q2. This course is required for all first year students.
Target

Contents
Review. Review of Speeches. Explanation of mid-term assignment.
Form and Theory 1: Analysis and Discussion of Body language and gestures in speeches. Pronunciation tips (SOS p.28-35).
Language Learning 1: Language conventions used in story telling. Use of the present and past tense in story telling.
Language Learning 2: Language conventions used in story telling. Use of the past perfect and past future tense.
Language Practice 1: Developing your speeches.
Language Practice 2: Developing your speeches.
Language Practice 3: Refining your speeches.
Presentations (Mid-term Presentation).
Review: Review of poster presentations. Explanation of final assignment. Methods of generating content.
Form and Theory 1: Analysis and Discussion of poster designs. Advanced visual design considerations.
Language Learning 1: Making generalizations. Giving background information,
Language Learning 2: Giving reasons and explaining cause and effect.
Language Practice 1: Developing your posters / presentation skills.
Language Practice 2: Developing your posters / presentation skills.
Language Practice 2: Refining your presentations.
Presentations (Final Presentation).
Task
Students will be required to give a 4-minute presentation on a topic.
Grade Policy
Students will be graded on participation (30%) a mid-term presentation (35%), and final presentation (35%).
